Change must be conquered at an individual level

Climate change is an extremely controversial subject because there is no right answer. If we don’t act now, we may not live to see another generation… at the same time, making the wrong decision will also lead to failure. For starters, everybody in the world needs to recognize that climate change isn’t a “… concept … created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive expensive hoax.” (Schulman, Jeremy, et al.). Only from there can we collectively work to the preservation of our planet. There are so many more specifics when it comes to whether or not we should mitigate climate change. At the end of the day, it comes down to our foundation. In Biology, we were taught about the different aspects of ecosystems. The smallest part of an ecosystem is an individual. From there it goes off to population, community, ecosystems, and the biosphere. We must first start change at an individual level; this can mean taking shorter showers, not wasting food, cutting down on the electricity we don’t need. As Anne-Marie Bonneau said, “We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.” (Bonneau, Anne-Marie). The moderation and conservation practiced by the 7+ billion people on this planet can help us achieve a better future. Switching off that light or using public transport are forms of reduction and they may just be the reason we’re still around one hundred years from now…

To summarize my points, these are the little things we can do together:

- Recognise that climate change exists

- Examine what is causing climate change. From there, think about what we can do to prevent the causes. (In this case, it is carbon dioxide emission. What you can do it use less of it).

- Eliminate wastage (don't leave lights on unnecessarily, try to use more public transit)

- Spread awareness. The fight against climate change is a battle everyone must partake in. Only when the 7 billion plus people are doing something collectively will we achieve a better Earth.
